Should I or shouldn’t I?

That’s been the question I’ve been asking myself since Thursday.  Should I discuss what we saw during the debate or not? The answer came when I looked at the calendar and realized this coming Thursday is Independence Day, the 4th of July.  I feel compelled to speak out.

The principles that are embedded in the Declaration of Independence and celebrated on Independence Day implore me to write this.  Those principles are Liberty, Equality and Self-Governance.

The principle of Liberty emphasizes the fundamental rights and freedoms of individuals. The Declaration of Independence asserts that all individuals have the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. The celebration of liberty on the 4th of July is a reminder of the importance of individual freedoms and the fight against tyranny.

The Declaration of Independence states that “all men are created equal” and that they are endowed with certain unalienable rights. This principle underscores the belief in equal treatment under the law and the inherent value of every individual, regardless of their background or status.

The principle of self-governance is rooted in the idea that governments derive their power from the consent of the governed,We The People.”  The 4th of July celebrates the American colonies’ decision to break away from British rule and establish a government based on the will of the people, reflecting the importance of democracy and the right to self-determination.

We have seen each of these fundamental American values undermined.  Our Independence is under attack.

When Jews (or anyone else) are prevented from entering a house of worship or their own college’s campus, American Liberty is being attacked.

When the definition of “men” is being redefined as a subjective feeling rather than as an objective biological fact, the principle of Equality is being subverted.

When We The People are being duped by an ever larger government a political machine and a complicit media, our self-governance is being assaulted.  It is no longer “by the people, for the people.”  It’s just another form of tyranny.

What we saw at Thursday night’s debate was worthy of Hans Christian Anderson’s famous folktale.  The Emperor’s New Clothes have been exposed.  It’s a sad and dangerous time for America.

It was sad for our Country, as our President is now seen by all as less than fully capable.  Policies aside, the images that were shoved in our faces are now indelibly etched into our collective consciousness.  Old, frail and failing.

We have been duped.  Surely other people have noticed this decline.  Images supporting this decline that have been described as “deep fakes” were obvious, deliberate obfuscation.  The White House, the staff, his cabinet and those who interact with him on a daily basis must have noticed that there were times when POTUS was not on his game.  And doesn’t the President of the most powerful nation on the planet need to always be in his or her game?  Otherwise, our Liberty is at risk.

The media too has been complicit in this cover up as has the Justice Department.  Even some physicians have chimed in by excusing Biden’s performance as “temporary drug-induced cognitive impairment.”  But the signs have been there for a long time.  We now know why the Hur tapes have not been released.  The audio would certainly corroborate the analysis that Biden is a “well-meaning, elderly man with a poor memory.”   That was what was seen at the debate for millions to see.  But consistent performance is what’s needed in the most important job on this earth.

In 2020, Biden ran because he thought he was the best person to unseat Trump.  He was right.  But now, 4 years later, frail, unsteady and sometimes confused, he is no longer the right person.  Who is pushing him?  Is his ego that big?  Do those pushing him truly have best interests of We The People at heart?

The only person running for President that’s talking some sense about We The People is RFK Jr. and he was prevented from being in the debate by the same machine that keeps Joe Biden in the Presidency.  What do you think would have happened if he was there?

Pundits are correct to point out that our enemies, both home and abroad are thinking about how they can capitalize on this moment.  It’s why We The Peoplehave to stand up again, as we did against the tyrannical government of King George III and say the words memorialized in the movie “Network”; I’m mad as hell and I’m not going to take it anymore.”

We deserve better.  Apathy, not speaking up or not actively participating in the political discourse, robs us of the rights others have fought so hard to gain and defend.  Let’s hold those who pulled the wool over our eyes accountable.  Is this the best we can muster?  Shame on us.

This Independence Day, let us all take a lesson from those to whom we owe our Liberty and Freedom, the generation of the American Revolution, and stand up, open our eyes, and raise our voices.  The internet is now our most powerful weapon.  Let’s use it to make our voices heard in the halls of power that their power comes from us and we’re not happy.  Only then will we merit the blessings we’ve been bequeathed; Liberty, Equality and Self-Governance, so we may pursue happiness in our lives and peace around the world.

To a happier 4th in 2025.
