No, it wasn’t pretty. For the most part, it brought out parts in some, that many wish would have stayed in some secret cave, tucked away in some Yucca Mountain-like cavern, sealed in some impenetrable vault. But alas, it burst forth.
2020 was like an antique, blackened mirror that reflected the dark, insecure, fearful side of so many. It caused many to look at the road ahead with some degree of trepidation and lack of bearing. Where would it take us? When would it end?
There seemed to be a never-ending procession of questions, with few, clear answers forthcoming.
So, as we look towards the coming year, with the light apparently peeking through the lifting fog and the road seeming to open up; what will YOU do differently?
How will you make amends, correct the path, improve your life in 2021?
What will your take-aways be from this past year?
Some people find putting a label on the upcoming year helpful. A theme, if you will, for the time ahead.
Goals notoriously fail, some say at a 97% rate. But, perhaps a TITLE for 2021 might work. A description of what you would like the coming year to mean as you look back on it on December 31, 2021.
I don’t pretend to know what’s best for anyone other than for me. So, I’m going to share my plans. I’m going to title my 2021 as Intentional Relevance.
What I learned in 2020 was that I was too comfortable. I was able to stop most of what I was doing and hibernate.
I am fortunate. I was positioned well. I was able to remote-in some degree of usefulness. And, I am grateful that, unlike so many, I was able to come through 2020, relatively unscathed.
I want to come out of hibernation. I’m hungry for relevance. I need to make an impact and a difference. I need to help others in a more meaningful way.
So, 2021 for me will be dedicated to making a difference.
And, the difference I want to make is to help people, perhaps like YOU, develop the mindset, skill-sets and systems to help other people in meaningful ways. I want to facilitate people to become the best, most RELEVANT version of themselves. And of course, that includes ME.
I realize that all impact begins with me, as the initiator, the spark, the igniter. I must become the change I want to see.
So, though I write this to you, I actually write it for me. This is the self-talk that I hope will make 2021 a year I can look back on with pride and contentment, knowing that I accomplished something special. Something, or things that others too, will see as contributing to the public welfare and greater good.
The ‘relevance’ part for me will be in helping people who help others improve their health.
In 2020, I believe I was too focused internally. I listened to podcasts, watched “Masterclasses”, binged some series and read many books. I gained knowledge but was unable do put much into action. I saw through a lens of survival, self-preservation and self-interest. For the most part, other than some increased exercise, I Zoomed-in 2020. I hope to turn that around in 2021 through intentional action.
I write this, so that you can swipe and deploy my strategy if you’d like. It’s a small way for me to kick-start the Year of Intentional Relevance.
